Lumibricks designers talk future fire station and 2026 town life sets

Behind the Scenes: Lumibricks Designers Talk 2027 Fire Station and Future Sets

If you are a member of the Lumibricks community on Facebook, you might have already caught a glimpse of a fantastic Q&A video featuring two of the lead creative minds behind the brand. I was so impressed with the insights they shared that I reached out to the team to see if I could host it here for those of you who aren’t on social media.

A big thank you to Lucas and the design team for kindly giving me the “green light” to share this with you all. It is a rare treat to hear directly from Shing (Project Manager) and Yi (the Chief Concept Creator for the Town Life series) about what goes on behind the studio doors.

Modulars of All Shapes and Sizes

One of the most interesting parts of the discussion focused on the future of the modular line. Responding to a suggestion about smaller sets like the Newsstand, Shing confirmed that Lumibricks is actively working on buildings of “all shapes and sizes.”

While the standard 32 x 32 baseplate is the classic choice, they want to give us more variety to make our city layouts feel more organic.

Lumibricks Fire Station Confirmed for 2027

The standout moment of the entire video was the casual confirmation that a modular Fire Station is currently in development for a 2027 release. For those of us building “Town Life” layouts, this is the news we have been waiting for.

Interestingly, for those with a sharp eye, the Fire Station has actually been teased before. If you look closely at the Tram Station set, the Fire Station is clearly marked on the printed tram map piece! It is fantastic to see that Lumibricks is actually following through on the world-building they started with their accessories.

A fire station is more than just another building; it is a cornerstone of any brick-built city. Shing mentioned this in the context of creating different shapes and sizes for modulars, which leads me to believe we might be looking at something unique.

While 2027 feels like a long way off, the fact that it is already on the official roadmap shows how committed Lumibricks is to completing the “essential” services of our towns. Between the Clinic coming this June and the Fire Station on the horizon, our minifigures are going to be very well looked after!

New Animals Coming This June

Minifigures are always a hot topic, and Yi confirmed that they are constantly looking at ways to improve them, specifically how they sit and interact with the sets.

However, the big news for the immediate future is the arrival of totally new animal pieces. These are set to debut in June with the release of the Clinic and Garden sets. Adding more life to the “Town Life” series is always a welcome move in my book.

The “Architectural” Approach to Design

When asked how they manage to capture such high levels of detail, the pair revealed that the design team actually includes professional architects. This explains why the proportions and structural details in sets like the Theatre feel so realistic.

They also touched on why some sets take a bit longer to reach the shelves. Shing explained that they have a very strict quality engineering process. They would rather spend a few extra months running quality checks to ensure our building experience is as smooth as possible, rather than rushing a product out.

Favourites from the Collection

To end the session, the designers shared their personal highlights. For Shing, the Theatre remains a standout project because of how “groundbreaking” it was for the team at the time. Yi shared that the research process, which often involves the team going out for meals and exploring real-world locations, is what makes the projects feel “warm” and authentic.

My Thoughts

I really appreciate that Lumibricks is so open about their process. Knowing that there are actual architects involved makes me look at my modular buildings in a completely different light.

The real “mic drop” moment for me was the Fire Station confirmation. A modular Fire Station is the one thing every brick city needs to feel complete. Even though we have to wait until 2027, just knowing it is officially on the roadmap makes me very happy. It is clear that Lumibricks is playing the long game with the Town Life series, and I am here for it!

A massive thank you again to Lucas and the designers for letting me share this video with the wider The Right Brick community!
