Pantasy Twin Lens Reflex Camera (85050) has now launched as part of the Retro Object theme, and the Pantasy Twin Lens Reflex Camera already looks like one of the more convincing object builds in the range. The official Pantasy store currently lists it at $59.99.
I am not always sold on object-based sets for the sake of it, but this one looks like it has a bit more going for it than just being a brick-built replica. Visually, it does a pretty good job of capturing that old-school twin-lens reflex shape, with the stacked lenses, chunky body, and side controls all helping it feel like an actual vintage camera rather than a generic retro box.
The colour choice is doing a lot of the heavy lifting too. The brown, black, and silver combination looks right for this kind of model, and from the promo images it seems Pantasy has put some real effort into the smaller printed details around the front plate and camera branding. That helps a lot with a set like this, because if the finish is off, the whole illusion falls apart very quickly.
What makes it more interesting is that Pantasy has not stopped at the exterior. The waist-level viewfinder is one of the main hooks here, and judging by the promo material, they are trying to mimic the real viewing effect rather than just putting a lid on top for show. There is also a focusing knob, a shutter-speed style adjustment lever, and a pull-out film strip element, which gives the set a bit more life than a simple static display build.
The little side display is probably my favourite part from first glance though. Instead of just giving you the camera on its own, Pantasy has added a mini travel-themed scene with film prints showing landmarks like Big Ben, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Statue of Liberty. That is the kind of extra touch that makes the set feel more complete and gives it a bit more character on display.
From the images alone, this looks like one of Pantasy’s better object-style releases. It seems to understand that a set like this has to do more than just look vaguely like the real thing. The exterior needs to be convincing, but the details and little interactive features are what make it interesting.
My early impression is that this one looks promising. It could have ended up being just another shelf ornament, but the viewfinder idea and film-strip display give it a bit more personality than that. If you are into photography, retro cameras, or just well-done display builds, this feels like one worth a closer look.
